Farewell to Coach Degen!

We regret to inform the LFLA family that Coach Bob Degen will be moving back to Garden City, Long Island.   Bob was an original LFLA Board member and coach.  His U15 team won the first ever championship for an LFLA team.

Bob was also Illinois High School Boy's Lacrosse Coach of the year in 2009 as the Varsity coach of Lake Forest High School.

Bob - we will miss you!  Good luck in NY!

Thompson Brothers Coming to Lake Forest!

NCAA Player of the Year  Miles Thompson will conduct lacrosse camps in Lake Forest this fall.

On the heels of sharing the coveted Tewaaraton Award after their record-setting statistical seasons for the University of Albany, Miles Thompson and brothers Jerome and Jeremy will come to Lake Forest on September 20th to pass along their expertise and help young players improve their understanding and skill level on the lacrosse field.

Miles Thompson (a senior) set a D1 single-season record with a staggering 82 goals in 2014, adding 37 assists for 119 points, the second best single-season total in Division 1 history behind Lyle’s total from the same campaign.

Miles Thompson was a USILA first team All-American and the MVP of the America East Tournament.

Lyle Thompson (a junior) set the new Division 1 single-season scoring record with 128 points, tallying 51 goals and a national-best 77 assists.  He was a model of consistency, producing at least 4 points in all 18 Albany games this season.

Together, the Thompson brothers led Albany to 15.94 goals per game, the highest-scoring offense in Division 1.  They led Albany all the way to the national quarterfinals in the NCAA Tournament, ultimately losing a 14-13 squeaker to Notre Dame.  Both brothers scored 3 goals in the loss to Notre Dame, and cousin Ty Thompson (another excellent player) added a pair of goals as well.

The Thompson brothers are members of the Onondaga Nation in New York.  They are the first Native Americans to win the Tewaaraton Award as national player(s) of the year, sharing the honor in 2014.

The sport of lacrosse was invented by Native Americans, and the mission statement for the Tewaaraton Award includes honoring the Native American history of the sport, as well as recognizing the top player(s) in the game.  “Tewaaraton” is what the Mohawk Nation of the Iroquois Confederacy called the sport we now call lacrosse.

Please note:  This clinic will not conflict with the Lake Forest Fall Ball program.

2014 IBLA Champions

Good Sportsmanship

After the IBLA U13 Championship game, we received this email from a parent from the other team:

"My son plays for the Lincoln-Way Wolves U13 Black, who your U13 team beat in the championship game.  I just wanted to take a moment to say how nice it was to see one of your defensemen give a little hug and encouragement to our goalie when he accidentally scored for your team.  It is really nice to see such good sportsmanship.  Please pass this on to your U13 coaches and players.  See you next year!"

We are proud of the way our players conduct themselves on and off the field.  This is what the LFLA stands for.  By the way - the player was George Schoettle.   Good job - George!  You represent the LFLA well!

McAll-Star Kids Sports Photography specializes in youth and high school lacrosse photography. Entire team game coverage and individual assignments are available, as well as team/individual portrait sessions.
